My Approach

Wilfred Bion wrote about psychotherapy being the process of making the indigestible, digestible.

When I think of this, I often picture a baby bird being cared for before it can fully digest the food that it needs to survive. The baby bird is not rushed and will take in as much as it can at each sitting. During this time the baby bird learns, it’s body adjusts, and growth happens.

I see something similar happening in the therapy room. Each individual is offered the space to unpack whatever is indigestible for them – whether it be anxiety, worries, trauma, or other difficulties – and at their own pace process it, heal, and find their way forward as it becomes digestible.

My approach to therapy is held within a psychoanalytic framework, with evidence based theories to support each individual. I often work with play therapy, therapeutic art, talk therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour therapy. These approaches are all directed by the individual and their specific needs.
